How to setup internet, WiFi, landline, TV in Dubai

To setup internet in Dubai you need to know that, the sole providers of Dubai internet are Etisalat and Du.

Although, before it was known that you must go with whoever your home is pre-wired to, now you have the freedom to choose between Dubai internet providers (Etisalat and Du) to connect internet at home.

Etisalat internet services range from a basic Al Shamil broadband connection up to eLife internet package that includes internet, landline and cable TV.

and so Du home internet services range from the Talk & Surf internet and Du landline packages to Talk, Surf and Watch packages, which also includes cable TV.

You can visit any Etisalat or du store to sign up and arrange for a home installation. You need to know that the process to setup internet completely takes at least one week.

In order to setup internet connection, you need to be:

  • UAE resident.
  • At the age of 21 or older for Du services. Du will also accept an NOC from someone aged 21 or over agreeing to be responsible for your internet account.

Before you setup internet, you need to pick whether you’ll have Etisalat or Du as an internet provider.

What are the documents required to setup internet?


Etisalat

  • Application form (download from website or complete in store)
  • Original passport with residence visa stamped, and a copy of that
  • Emirates ID (original and copy)

Du

  • Ejari-registered tenancy contract or title deed with name and physical address.
  • Passport including residence visa (original and copy)
  • Your original Emirates ID (original)

 

Procedure

  1. Submit all required documents at service center.
  2. Pay the required installation fees for a 12-month contract.
  3. Make sure engineer is booked to install internet connection at a future date, usually within seven days.
  4. Billing starts from first log-in or up to 21 days from application.
  5. Bills are paid monthly.

What are the charges I will see on my first bill?

In addition to the monthly subscription fee (which might be on pro-rata basis for the first month), you will see an activation fee of AED 200 and deposit fee of AED 200.

Note: if you opt in for auto-payment using your credit card, you don’t have to pay the AED 200 home deposit. Also note, once you cancel the auto-payment, you will be asked to pay the full amount of the deposit.

Cancelation Fee:

Starter and Basic:

In the first 12 months: AED 500.

In the last 12 months: AED 250.

AED 10 is added for each remaining month in the contract.

Advanced and Ultimate:

In the first 12 months: AED 500.

In the last 12 months: AED 250.

AED 25 is added for each remaining month in the contract.

General: Canceling internet subscription

To cancel your internet subscription, you will need to either downgrade your package to just a landline, or cancel it altogether. To do this, call or visit the service centre of whoever provides your internet (du or Etisalat). You will need to pay a downgrade fee of Dhs.100 if you cancel du internet before your 12-month contract expires. Etisalat requires one-month’s notice to cancel, otherwise you will need to pay for a month even if you don’t use it.
